Monastery School

The renewed Monastery School builds on the monastery’s long tradition as a centre of learning and knowledge. Its educational programme focuses on natural and cultural heritage as well as on promoting a healthy and sustainable way of life.

For this purpose, the former premises of the 18th-century theological institute, where novices were prepared for monastic life, have been carefully restored and adapted.

One of the Monastery School’s classrooms takes younger visitors back several centuries, allowing them to experience the teaching methods and educational practices used during the time of the Camaldolese monks.

The Monastery School also offers creative workshops for the whole family, where participants can make products from medicinal herbs under the guidance of the “pharmacists” from Brother Cyprian’s Herbal Workshop.

As the monastery is a historic monument administered by the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic, the restored Monastery School also serves as a professional training centre for the Board’s staff, as well as for employees of state and public administration whose work is related to the management and protection of Slovakia’s cultural heritage.
